WATCH: Bettystown beachgoers save car from incoming tide
Watch these kind-hearted sunbathers came together to rescue of a parked car on the beach which was about to be engulfed by the incoming tide at Bettystown beach on Sunday.
The beach drama unfolded at Bettystown County Meath in sweltering temperatures on probably the hottest day of the year so far.
The tide can come in quite far fast at Bettystown and when the beachgoers spotted the abandoned Nissan Micra in the path of rushing seawater, they leapt into action to save the car.
A window needed to be broken so the rescuers could release the handbrake before up to two dozen local heroes began to push the car to safety.
At one point the rescuers physically lifted the car into a different position to get it free from the rising waters.
Martha Kelly captured the unfolding car rescue and posted it on her Facebook page. “When someone decides to leave the car and go off for a walk and the tide comes in. Fair play to all that saved the car.”

Well done to all involved.
