Gardaí seize a vehicle which was not taxed in over four years

The Gardaí last week stopped a vehicle which was not taxed in over four years. When the driver was questioned by the Guards he claimed to be a mechanic who was fixing the vehicle at the time.

Meanwhile, Garda checkpoints are being increased around the country in the lead-up to Christmas.

As part of a Christmas enforcement campaign, gardaí stopped eight drivers on Friday 9th of December in the space of four hours for using mobile phones while driving.

The checkpoint was carried out near the Red Cow Hotel in Dublin.

Gardaí are continuing to urge motorists not to use their phones while driving.

Checkpoints will become more prevalent over the festive period as gardaí clamp down on drink driving.

The Gardaí Tweeted the following warning to motorists considering drinking and driving on Friday, “Out on the town? Don't drive home. So far tonight Pearse St Traffic Unit have tested over 100 motorists.”
