Dacia and Ford recall thousands of cars in Ireland

Dacia and Ford are recalling thousands of cars in Ireland over safety fears and Irish motorists who are affected by these recalls will be contacted in due course.

This is an urgent recall notice issued on thousands of cars in Ireland, in which Dacia is recalling 2,291 vehicles and Ford is recalling 278 vehicles.

The affected Dacia vehicles are certain models of the Sandero II and Logan II MCV passenger vehicles. A spokesperson said:
"A voluntary recall is being carried out on certain Dacia Sandero II (X52) and Dacia Logan II MCV passenger vehicles. The affected vehicles were produced between February 2013 and June 2015.

"Dacia has identified a safety issue, whereby, due to a manufacturing fault, the fuel pipe may rub on the headlight cable and/or air-conditioning hose, which can cause a fuel leak onto the road surface.

"There are 2291 affected vehicles on the Irish market."

Dacia will be contacting customers by letter in order to arrange an appointment for necessary repairs to be carried out. If your vehicle is affected by this you are advised to speak with their dealer or contact Dacia’s customer's relations team on 1890 771 771 with your VIN number.

Ford is also recalling certain models of its Focus, C-MAX, Kuga, Mondeo, Galaxy and Transit Connect cars. A spokesperson for that car manufacturer said:
"Ford Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of certain models of Ford Focus, Ford C-MAX, Ford Kuga, Ford Mondeo, Ford Galaxy, Ford Transit Connect passenger car.

"The production range of the affected vehicles is from 2014 to 2018. There is a possibility that the clutch pressure plate may break while the vehicle is in motion, propulsion may be lost and the engine may catch fire. In an extreme case the bonnet may also unlock.

"There are 278 affected vehicles on the Irish market."

Ford also have said that they will be contacting all the owners involved and arrangements are in hand to have the affected vehicles software and hardware updated and where necessary replacement of the clutch set. Ford can be contacted on 1800 771199.

Both these recall notices were issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Wednesday, July 18.
