15 New Bike Stations Are Coming To Dublin
Such is the popularity of bike stations around Dublin many find they have to battle for a Dublin Bike at 8.30am on a weekday morning.
As a result of the need, there are 15 new bicycle stations being introduced around the city.
The 15-station expansion of Dublin Bikes will be focused on the Grangegorman area and is set to get underway this summer and to be completed by the end of the year.
This will bring the number of bicycle docking stations in Dublin from 101 to 116 with 100 extra bikes being added to the total number of bicycles which stands at around 1,580.
Out of the 15 new stations, Irish Cycle said that 9 will be around Grangegorman, where the DIT campus is still under construction.
The new plan will see four stations located along or just off the North Circular Road, three or four will be on Grandegorman Lower / Upper, and two will be on the city side of the Phibsborough Road.
Locations of new stations:
- North Circular Road, 4 stations
- Grandegorman Lower / Upper, 3 – 5
- Phibsborough Road (City side), 2
- Connolly Station / Croke Park, 4
Here’s where exactly you’ll be able to find them:
Dublin Bikes accounted for 4.3m journeys in 2016 alone and more than 18 million journeys since the launch in September 2009.
At this time the bike scheme has 68,000 annual subscribers and its busiest day ever was on September 16, 2016, with 18,041 journeys taken on that one day alone.
Since February 2017 yearly membership subscriptions increased from €20 to €25 which is to partly pay for the expansion and also aiming to fill in an amount which was to date paid from the city council’s general budget.
