St Patrick's Day: Public Transport on March 17

As most of us know, getting in and out of Dublin city on public transport can be a bit of a nightmare at the best of times but on St. Patrick's Day it can get quite daunting.

Thousands of visitors will pour into the city centre to celebrate St Patrick’s Day tomorrow.

The streets will be packed with revellers from Ireland and all around the world for the celebration of all things Irish and one of the biggest days of the year.

Getting in and out of town is going to be a challenge for many so here is all you need to know about public transport in the Capital tomorrow.

Here’s all you need to know about public transport plans for the Saint Patrick’s Day festival weekend.


DART AND TRAIN SERVICES

Friday 17th March - St Patrick's Day

Intercity services will operate a Friday schedule with alterations.  Full details are available by searching the journey planner above or in our St Patrick's Day timetable.

DART services will operate on a Sunday schedule, but with extra DARTs operating before and after the St Patrick's Day Parade.

Commuter services will operate on a Sunday schedule with minor alterations.  Full details are available by searching the journey planner above.

DART and Commuter customers should note that Tara Street Station is closed until 16.00hrs on St Patrick's Day, to aid in the Garda crowd management plan for the parade.  Customers should use Connolly or Pearse Stations instead for Dublin city centre.

Saturday 18th March

A normal Saturday service will operate on all routes, with the following changes:

Extra DART and Commuter services will operate for the Six Nations Ireland v England match at the Aviva Stadium (17.00hrs).  Trains will not serve Grand Canal Dock between 18.05hrs and 19.35hrs.

The following Intercity alterations are in place for the Six Nations match:
    • 19.05hrs Dublin Connolly to Sligo is deferred to 20.05hrs
    • 19.35hrs Dublin Heuston to Galway is deferred to 20.10hrs, and will call additionally at Oranmore.

Sunday 19th March

A normal Sunday service will operate on all routes, with the following changes:

Extra DART services to and from Howth for the Dublin Bay Prawn Festival.


DUBLIN BUS

Diversions will be in place for the duration of the Saint Patrick’s Day festival between March 16-19. You can find out if your route is affected at the Dublin Bus website.

As for Dublin Bus tomorrow, all routes will operate on a Sunday timetable.

City Tour, Coastal Tours, Beyond Barricades Tour and Ghostbus Tour services will not operate.

A full Nitelink service will operate on Thursday 16, Friday 17 and Saturday, March 18. There will be no Nitelink on Sunday, March 19.


LUAS

Luas services on St Patrick’s Day will run to a normal Friday timetable, with the following exceptions:

On the Green Line, the first tram is at 7am and the last services are at 11pm from Brides Glen and 11.30pm from St Stephen’s Green.

On the Red Line , trams will operate between Smithfield and Tallaght/Saggart only between 10.30am and 2.30pm, due to the St Patrick’s Day parade.

The first tram is at 7am and the last services are at 10.50pm from Saggart, 11pm from Tallaght and 11.30pm from the city centre.
