Statistics from MyVehicle.ie show used vehicle imports into Ireland have dramatically increased in 2016 compared to 2015 for the first eight months of the year. Imports of used cars overall are up 34.07% from this time last year. In 2015 the imports figure hit over 21,000 cars not measuring up to nearly double for the first eight months of 2016. The rise in used car imports may be influenced by the change in the exchange rate between the euro and the pound. At the moment €1 is equal to £0.85 . If this continues to increase we are likely to see an escalation in the number of imports into Ireland.

Apart for the first month of January which was down only 3.3% the next four months have been consistently increasing in terms of import numbers. February imports rose 12.2% from 2015, March went from just over 4,500 vehicles to 5,300 giving a jump of 21%. April and May saw a dramatic escalation in statistics for used vehicle imports into Ireland. Figures rose 46% in April from 3,900 to 5,900 vehicles. In similar fashion May saw a rise of close to 58%. June, July and August were the months during and post Brexit vote.  In June , the number of used imports rose  by +41%, July saw an increase by +36% and August was a surge in imported vehicles by +75%.
